My soul clings to the dust; Revive me according to Your WORD. Psalm 119: 25
The Christian life is not always a constant and consistent life of holiness, glory, grace, and power. There is so much that can distract, pull, and entice us so that the once vibrant river of life flowing through us dries up and we come to the place of the psalmist crying out “My soul clings to the dust”. Other times the Lord leads us into dry seasons in the wilderness to deepen our faith, purity, and prepare us to enter in a promise land of victory and advance. Whatever the circumstances there are times we need a fresh infusion of life and vitality along our journey.
The tendency of a human soul is to cling to whatever is in our own self interest. This selfish tendency is one of the deepest roots of sin and the battlefield in our souls is between this selfishness and sacrificial love. Our souls are where our mind, will, and emotions function. It is completely unnatural for our soul to reject self rule and die to self interest. Many embrace elements of the Christian faith without ever dying to this self rule. For those of us who have surrendered fully to the Lord, living that out is a constant challenge as self so easily resumes control.
When we come to the place of our souls clinging to the dust, we have come to a place where we are ready to be revived according to His word, because we are dying afresh to decision making according to our own desires. Read over Psalm 119:1-32 and notice the turning from “according to my way” to “according to Your word”.
v. 2 Who seek Him with the whole heart!
v. 9 How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.
v. 11Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.
v. 16 I will delight myself in Your statutes;
v. 19 I am a stranger in the earth;
v. 20 My soul breaks with longing For Your judgments at all times.
v. 21 You rebuke the proud.
v. 28 My soul melts from heaviness;
v. 29 Remove from me the way of lying, I have chosen the way of truth;
v. 30 Your judgments I have laid before me.
Father, we repent from trusting in ourselves and make flesh our strength. We turn to You, and trust in You. Oh, God, our hearts are more deceitful than all else, and is desperately sick! Who can understand it? Oh, Lord, you search the heart, you test the mind. Have your way, we are nothing but clay in Your hands. Give us a heart to know you! We seek you with all our heart, soul, mind, body, and strength.
Revive us according to Your word! We surrender to Your word, revive us to love and live moment by moment in agreement to Your word! Renew our minds to think and decide in harmony with Your word! Unite our hearts that we would no longer waver between Your word and our desires! Unite our hearts that our only source would be Your word!
